A group of Agarics highly variable in colour (green, orange-red, red, yellow, ochrous-yellow, yellow-brown, orange-brown, red-brown), with conical to convex caps, occasionally with umbo. Spores brown, purple-brown, purple-black. In Britain about 50 species of the genus Psilocybe (Hypholoma, Stropharia, Melanotus) occur.
