The usually partly or entirely subterranean or in the substrate growing structure of fungal threads or mycelium strands or hyphae and/or rhizomorphs from which the reproductive organs or fruit-bodies develop.
The mycelium lives in earth, wood or other substrates and serves especially for the absorption of nutrients.
